Improving your home’s efficiency can provide you with many benefits, like lower energy bills and better comfort. But did you know that certain home performance upgrades can also increase your home’s value? With Pearl home certification, you can rest assured knowing your home is safe, energy efficient, and resilient.
As one of the only participating Pearl contractors in the Westchester area, Healthy Home Energy & Consulting can help you certify your home and start improving your energy efficiency today.
What is Pearl Home Certification?
Pearl Certification puts value on energy efficiency as a tool for homeowners to understand their home’s performance—and where it can be improved upon. Pearl offers third-party home certification and is the only market-based firm approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) to participate in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR®️ program for existing homes.
Homes with Pearl Certification sell for 5% more on average, in addition to getting many other benefits like:
Improved comfort
Better indoor air quality and home safety
Lower utility costs
How To Get Pearl Certified
The first step to getting Pearl Certification is to work with a participating contractor, like Healthy Home Energy, to understand where your home needs energy efficient improvements. This is done with an energy audit to evaluate your home’s equipment and performance. At Healthy Home Energy, we can help you navigate through the entire process to reach any of the 4 certification levels.
Pearl uses a scoring system, assigning points to home features—or assets—based on how they perform individually and as part of a whole home system. Assets get more points the more efficiently they operate and how they interact with things like your local climate. The tallied points that a home receives determine what certification level it qualifies for: Asset, Silver, Gold, or Platinum. Pearl looks at 5 main categories in their scoring system:
Building Shell
This includes your home’s roof, walls, windows, and foundation.
Heating & Cooling
Temperature control equipment, like your furnace, air conditioner, and ductwork.
Baseload
Your home’s water heater, appliances, and electronics.
Home Management
Smart thermostats and energy management plans that help you maintain your home’s performance.
Renewable Energy & Energy Storage
This includes solar panels, inverters, batteries, and electric vehicle chargers.
Pearl Certification is good for any home, though it’s especially beneficial to homes preparing to go up for sale. After the process is complete, you will receive a “Residential Green and Energy Efficient Addendum” which appraisers will incorporate into your most recent appraisal.
